Over the summer, Church in a Pub will be occasionally meeting in a slightly different way from our usual “upstairs at Circus Circus”. If you’re not on our email contact list, then please contact us beforehand to find out what we’re up to. Thanks. What is it?Church in a pub is an informal meeting held up-stairs in the pub circus circus. All are welcome and can expect a short talk on a relevent Bible passage as well as time to discuss both thier ideas and the passage. In addition, there is usually a quiz or interview and time to get to know the other people there. we don't ask you to stand up and sing or to try and understand Christian jargon, we just deliver the Bible in easy to understand english. as we're in a pub, you can feel free to go down stairs and get a pint during the meeting and there are usually some table snacks around.
Why Should I Come? There are many reasons why someone might want to Come, if you have any questions about the Bible or christianity in general, then we will be happy to answer them for you. If you just want to come and hear our ideas and discuss them with us, then that's fine too. We're happy to have people who just like the idea of meeting up with others in a pub for a chat. If you're a Christian but don't like going to a traditional church service, then we give you the oppertunity to hear from the Bible in a relaxed setting as well as learning how to share your faith with others. finally, if you're a student or work Sundays, then the fact that church in a pub is on in the evening means you can still have your Sunday lie in or go to work and come to our meeting.

Why don’t you sing at Church in a Pub?Well the first thing that we want to say is that we don’t refuse to sing. Because Church in a Pub was created in order to reach out to those who don’t normally go to church we wanted to remove as many barriers as possible. When we’ve chatted to people we’ve found that singing together publicly feels pretty weird for them, and when they have been willing to come along on a Sunday night we don’t want them to feel awkward or uncomfortable in any way. In the Bible Paul, who was one of the first followers of Jesus, tells us that he tried to be "all things to all people" so that he could reach as many as possible with the good news of Jesus, and we at Christ Church want to model that attitude as well.
Why do we meet in a pub?Why not? Church is not so much about where people meet, but about what they do when they meet. So we think you can have “church” anywhere where people meet together to “get in touch with our Creator God and investigate the real Jesus”. Church buildings just happen to be useful because there are so many of them. But they can have their downsides. So we choose to meet in a pub on a Sunday evening, because we think it will be more helpful for those who don’t normally go to church. We want all our meetings to be accessible to all – so that we put up no barrier to prevent people from investigating who Jesus is, and coming to know him better as we meet together to get in touch with our Creator God. |
